JAKE FRANCIS

In 2010, after a career ending back surgery while playing football for UT-Chatanooga I was looking for a change in my lifestyle. This is when a friend suggested CrossFit to me and from my very first class I was hooked!

Over the past 3 years I have had the opportunity to train athletes of all ages and experience levels. Including coaching Varsity wrestling at Clarke Central High School where I was able to implement CrossFit during both in season and out of season conditioning for our athletes. Prior to opening CrossFit Dwala I also coached at Classic City CrossFit and CrossFit Indulto. In May 2013 I graduated from UGA with a degree in Sports Management.

Outside of CrossFit I enjoy football, time with family/friends and traveling.

CrossFit was something that I first heard about through my sister and, to be frank, I never thought it would be something that I would be interested in doing, let alone making my career out of it! For a long time, I had always envisioned myself becoming an emergency room physician or surgeon. I even went back to school after my undergraduate degree to finish my pre-med prerequisites in the hopes of one day attending medical school. Little did I know CrossFit already gave me the impactful career I was craving all along. I am able to work with my clients every single day of the year, helping them become healthier and fitter for the rest of their lives. Not to mention, I also help educate my clients on why exercise and diet are so important and vital. I wouldn’t trade my career and my passion for anything else!

I have been a full-time CrossFit Coach since May of 2013. I spent a year-and-a-half coaching at CrossFit Rx in Downtown Atlanta, followed by an additional year at CrossFit Terminus in Atlanta prior to joining my husband at CrossFit Dwala in the summer of 2015. On top of coaching CrossFit classes, I also work with clients privately both here at Dwala and remotely (online).

CrossFit Dwala is much more than just a “fitness facility.” It is a community of people who are looking to develop healthy habits, have accountability, and also enjoy the camaraderie of other members during those tough workouts. We are so lucky and blessed to have this big Dwala Family by our side.

Julia Crosby

Hi! My name is Julia Crosby. I have a B.S. in Exercise Science, as well as my CF-L1 & PN-1. My passion is helping individuals reach their health and fitness goals through exercise & nutrition! I am a personal trainer and a nutrition coach here at Dwala. What I love most about Dwala is the PEOPLE. We are all a family, and we cheer each other on until that very last rep! We will push you. We will challenge you. And you will change!

Outside the gym, I enjoy being a dog mom to my Australian Shepherds, hanging out with friends and family, and traveling!

Jessie Singer

After being a competitive equestrian for 12 years, I felt like it was time to try something new. The competitive nature of CrossFit was initially what drew me in, but I soon discovered that being part of a tight-knit community was really what it is all about. Over the past four years, I have had the chance to train individuals of all fitness levels to help them reach and maintain their specific goals. My favorite part about being here at Dwala is the fact that we are all one big family! Teamwork truly does make the dream work. These people have quickly become my best friends, and Dwala has become my home away from home.

Outside of CrossFit, I love listening to live music and playing with my dog, Ziggy!

Mitchel Szwec

I am from Marietta and graduated from Walton High School in 2013. I am currently pursuing a B.S. in Integrative Studies at Kennesaw State and will graduate in the spring of 2018. In the fall of 2009, I was introduced to CrossFit through a baseball coach of mine and used CrossFit methodology to train for the upcoming season. From my first workout (Helen), I was hooked, but I stopped CrossFitting during our season. Then, for the next two years as I prepared for upcoming high school seasons, I felt like something was missing in my preparation. My friends and I were always trying to create CrossFit-style workouts in our training. I was finally exposed again in 2011 for another fall training and loved every minute. After that fall, I remember wanting to continue, but my seasons were too long to spend enough time training. After an injury ended my freshman season early at Augusta State, I decided I wanted to commit to CrossFit and haven't looked back. In January 2015, I committed to training and have loved it since.

I have coached in the Greater Atlanta area since April 2015. My favorite part about Dwala is the community. From Games athletes to brand new CrossFitters, everyone is welcomed with open arms, and all of the coaches and members are genuinely kind and want you to succeed.

Anne Marie Morris

I got bit by the CrossFit bug in April of 2012. After years of walking around the standard gym being unsure of what to do with myself, my husband convinced me to try CrossFit with him. So I went to a class, figuring I had nothing to lose but my disdain at being jammed into a hot room full of the flailing arms of people as equally uncoordinated as I was at doing Zumba. I never looked back.

In 2014, I went for my CrossFit L1 certification and have been coaching at Dwala ever since. I love watching and participating in the transformation that takes place in people when you teach them to move well and then challenge them to succeed in activities - be it lifting weight, climbing a rope, or jumping on a box - that they never believed they could do.

In addition to coaching regular and barbell classes, I also run the youth weightlifting and CrossFit programs.

Tripp Morris

I have a familiar story with CrossFit: Bored at the anti-community-globo gym, used to be almost 300lbs (a short 300lbs at that), and used to be a college athlete.

When I first started CrossFit (April 2012), I was looking for a substitute for competitive soccer where I was less likely to break a hip (which happened) versus bone-breaking (also happened) Sunday league soccer. For a while, it filled that void and that was good enough. As I began coaching at CrossFit Dwala, I found a lot of fulfillment that I wasn’t getting in other places in my life. Helping people do athletic things they did not believe they could or watching someone reach a long-term strength goal is my reason for being part of the Dwala community.

Coach Anne Marie and I started CrossFit in Illinois before moving here. After trying two other nearby gyms, I knew Dwala was going to be the right place for us when I spoke to Jake on the phone a week before CrossFit Dwala opened. It has been an honor and a joy to watch the members and my family reach their goals inside and outside the walls of Dwala.

Edward Baker

Edward has been competing in the sport of Weightlifting for eleven years, six years under the tutelage of John Coffee. He is currently a coach for Coffee's Gym (which is running inside of CrossFit Dwala for the time being) and a certified USAW National coach.

Jenny Kopach

I am a physical therapist with over 18 years of experience in orthopedics and sports medicine. I graduated from Boston University’s Master’s Program in Physical Therapy and am a perpetual student of complementary approaches to movement and healing. I am a registered yoga teacher, a certified Pilates instructor, a manual therapist, and I am currently pursuing my certification in Dry Needling.

Having worked at Hospital for Special Surgery in NY, the #1 orthopedic institution in the country, I have had the unique opportunity to collaborate side by side with the leading surgeons and clinicians in the field of sports medicine to provide care to professional, collegiate and recreational athletes of all ages. I understand how to keep someone in the game and to remain active and engaged while he/she recovers from injury. I also recognize and educate regarding the importance of prevention, recovery and optimal performance. My passion is to teach you how to take care of yourself, facilitating the healing process along the way.

Fast forward to CrossFit Dwala, the next chapter in my career and the ideal place to combine my skill set with a like-minded community of coaches and athletes. I have had the pleasure to work and play with this amazing community of athletes since the fall of 2016 and enjoy not only teaching mobility and yoga classes, but providing a source of knowledge and commitment to making this community healthier in mind and body.

Hi! I'm Coach TJ, and I am honored to be a part of your fitness journey. I’ve been coaching CrossFit since 2012. Over time, I have become very passionate about fostering a great atmosphere for people to enjoy themselves as they reach their personal goals.
